A ROAD safety campaigner from Bradford says it is "ridiculous" that a speeding driver who clocked up 62 points on their licence is still allowed to drive.

The West Yorkshire man was among 10,000 motorists legally driving on British roads last month, despite having excessive points.

Usually 12 points means a ban, but magistrates can choose not to enforce it in "exceptional cases".

Now road safety campaigner Amjad Malik, 40, has condemned the behaviour of the speeding driver who racked up the huge points tally.

His son, Saliq Malik, 15, died from severe head and neck injuries after the Volkswagen Golf GTi in which he was a front seat passenger slid out of control in Gilpin Street, Barkerend, Bradford, on the morning of September 12, 2014.

Mr Malik said: "If the sentences were tougher, we would not be having any stories like this.

"They should not be on the road, they should be in prison.

"I think it's ridiculous. They should be off the road way before 62 points obviously."
