A DANGER driver has been jailed for 20 months after crashing a stolen car into metal railings during a high speed police chase across central Bradford.

Isaac Blamires was caught on camera by the West Yorkshire Police helicopter crew swerving in and out of traffic, mounting the kerb and jumping a red light on the afternoon of October 26.

Blamires, 21, of Parrott Street, Tong, Bradford, collided with two vehicles during the pursuit at the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf stolen in a house burglary in the city earlier that day.

He fled on foot after smashing into a crash barrier and was arrested on a grassed area near Broadstone Way, Holme Wood.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that Blamires went on to burgle a house in New Hey Road, East Bowling, Bradford, while the occupants were on honeymoon.

He was arrested while on bail with earrings in his pocket that the bride had borrowed from her grandmother for her wedding day.

Prosecutor Syam Soni told the court that Blamires was also cautioned by the police for possession of drugs five days before the driving offences.

The stolen Golf was spotted by the police helicopter at 2.30pm after Blamires clipped a car at speed on Odsal roundabout.

Mr Soni said Blamires was the sole occupant of the car and there was no suggestion he was involved in the burglary in which it was taken.

Blamires mounted the kerb while doing double the 30mph speed limit in Rooley Lane, weaving in and out of traffic.

He jumped a red light and sped towards Dudley Hill travelling at 70mph in a 40mph zone.

Mr Soni said the car continued along Sticker Lane, Fenby Avenue and Blamires ignored a Give Way sign at Cutler Heights Lane.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance and possession of the stolen car as criminal property.

He also admitted the burglary at New Hey Road that took place shortly after midnight on November 17.

The court heard that a vigilant neighbour spotted four men passing a stolen TV set over the garden fence at the four bedroom property. They dropped it and fled when challenged.

The raiders' £2,260 haul included an X-Box, laptop computer, the earrings and £150 in cash.

Blamires was caught hiding in a garden. His hand was bleeding badly and he was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary for treatment.

His footwear matched prints left by the burglars at the raided house.

Blamires' barrister, Jessica Strange, said he was a young man with no previous convictions who pleaded guilty to all matters at the earliest opportunity.

He was driving the Golf home for a friend and sped off because he knew he was not insured to drive it.

Miss Strange said Blamires was a hard working man who fell in with the wrong crowd and was exploited.

He was now back living with his family and was thoroughly ashamed of himself.

Judge Neil Davey QC banned him from driving for 22 months.

"This was a bad episode of dangerous driving that created a substantial danger to other road users," he said.

Less than a month later, Blamires was out with a group of men at night burgling the couple's home and stealing earrings of sentimental value borrowed by the bride for her wedding.
