A DRIVER has spoken of his anger after being ‘cut up’ by a fellow motorist on a busy road, narrowly avoiding a parked car.

Adrian Speed, 63, was turning right from Otley Road, Shipley, on to Kirkgate when a white Peugeot 208 – believed to be untaxed – pulled across him from his left-hand side, also onto Kirkgate.

The motorist also narrowly avoided a parked minicab while overtaking Mr Speed’s X-Type Jaguar.

Mr Speed, who filmed the incident on his dashboard camera, was forced to brake to avoid a crash.

The incident took place just before 7am on Wednesday, July 27.

Mr Speed, of Menston, said: “I was peeved by it. At the time I thought ‘Crikey, that was a near miss’.

“I had to brake to let him come over, otherwise he would have come into the side of me.

“Fortunately, out of the corner of my eye I saw the driver. I then took evasive action to protect myself.

“If we all drove like him we would be crashing into each other all of the time. The driver seemed like he was in a terrific hurry.

“I was fed up of getting cut up and decided to get a dash cam. It happens all the time.”

A total of 4,110 drivers have now been caught by the police’s Operation Steerside, which was set up on the back of the Telegraph & Argus' Stop the Danger Driver's campaign.

Last week, 128 were snared – 19 for speeding, 17 for mobile phone use, 68 for not wearing a seatbelt, 13 for being uninsured and 11 for other incidents.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said a vehicle had been stopped in Parkwood Street, Keighley, at about 1.40pm on Thursday, after the driver was seen to be not wearing a seatbelt. The driver was found to be over the prescribed alcohol limit and was arrested, charged and bailed.

Another vehicle was stopped in Great Horton Road, Bradford, at about noon on Friday for being unroadworthy. Its 26-year-old male driver was arrested for immigration offences and passed to authorities. The uninsured vehicle was seized.

"These arrests show how Steerside is not only tackling road traffic offences, but is also identifying and detaining people wanted for other matters," said the spokesman.

"More than 300 vehicles have been taken off the roads by Steerside officers in just over six months and we hope this ongoing work is making people feel safer.

"A number of matters from earlier offences are progressing through the system to the courts.

"Details of danger drivers can be reported to bradforddistrictasbbiketeam@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk, left by answerphone on 01274 373968, by 101 or at your local police station. Vehicles posing an immediate risk to the public should be reported on 999.

"All dash cam footage should be clearly stamped with a time and date and submitted with the owner's details."
