A FIREARMS court case has been delayed while police continue an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding a fatal shooting.

Moshin Amin was due to enter pleas at Leeds Crown Court in relation to the incident in which Mohammed Yasser Yaqub, 28, was shot dead by police at Ainley Top near junction 24 of the M62, on Monday, January 2.

Amin, 30, of Broomer Street, Dewsbury, is charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a sound moderator and possession of ammunition.

Mr Yaqub, 28, from Huddersfield, was shot in the chest by police in a planned operation on a slip road next to the motorway. A post-mortem examination confirmed the injury was the cause of his death.

Hundreds of mourners attended his funeral.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the case and is dealing with key witness statements and forensic evidence, the court was today told.

The case was adjourned until Tuesday, March 7, and Amin remains on bail.
