A MURDER investigation has begun after a woman's body was found at a house in Bradford on Boxing Day.

Two men, aged 33 and 42, have been arrested on suspicion of murder, and remain in custody today.

Officers were called to the property in Bankholme Court, Holme Wood, at about 4.20pm after the woman, who is believed to be in her 30s, was found by ambulance staff.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, said a West Yorkshire Police spokesman.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Spencer, of the force's Homicide and Major Enquiries Team, said: "This is believed to be an isolated incident and our inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances.

"Anyone who may be able to assist the investigation is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiries Team on 101, quoting log 0913 of December 26."

Today, a police tent was still in place outside the front of the two-storey terraced house, flanked by three crime scene investigation vans and a scientific support vehicle.

A group of about four houses had been taped off within a police cordon, with officers standing guard and making door-to-door inquiries around the quiet cul-de-sac.

Paul Hewlett, who lives opposite the house, said: “It was a couple who lived there, they hadn’t even been there a year.

“She worked in Bradford, near the sorting office. He was mainly here, the first time my wife and I saw him was after he broke his leg, it was in a pot.

“I didn’t really speak to her much. Occasionally I’d say hello, but nothing other than that. I didn’t even know their names.”

David Bentley, who lives further down the street, said: “We’ve been here 35 years and there’s only a few people who you get to know.

"The only time I saw them was if they were getting in the car or putting the bins out, I’ve never spoken to them.

"We had just got back from shopping, and next minute there’s half a dozen police cars coming in.

"If you speak to councillors and mention Bankholme Court they’ll say nothing ever happens here. So this is a shock.”

Councillor Alan Wainwright (Lab, Tong) said: “It’s shocking for something like to happen at any time of year, but we’ll have to wait and see what comes of the police inquiries.

"It’s a quiet street, right on the edge of Holme Wood opposite the riding school."
