DETECTIVES in Bradford are hunting two masked carjackers who forced a mum and her baby to get out of a vehicle before stealing it.

Police said the victim and her eleven-month-old child were in a silver Volkswagen Polo GTI parked outside Shezzaan’s Restaurant, Halifax Road, Wibsey, when the men struck.

The robbery happened at about 9.20pm on Saturday when the duo approached the car and demanded the woman get out. One of the robbers appeared to have a metal object in his hand as a weapon, said police.

The woman was able to remove the child from the car before the men drove off towards Odsal Top. Neither the woman nor the child were hurt.

One of the men was believed to be wearing a hooded top with a grey body, back and hood, and darker grey or black sleeves.

Detective Constable Simon Turton, of Bradford District CID, said: “This was understandably a frightening experience for the victim and her child.

“We treat any use of a weapon extremely seriously and it is vital that we identify and bring to justice those involved. Our enquiries are continuing and we would urge anyone who was in the Halifax Road area at the time, or anyone who may have seen the vehicle shortly afterwards, to call Bradford District CID via 101, quoting crime reference 13160707596.”

In a separate incident, a man aged in his 40s suffered leg injuries when he was also targeted by carjackers. They were believed to be armed with a baton.

The robbery happened in Idle on Tuesday, said police. Officers were called to The Grove, off Bradford Road, at about 9.15pm following a report of a robbery where a black Volkswagen Golf had been stolen.

It is believed the owner of the car was followed into the street by a dark blue Toyota Corolla containing the carjackers. They are said to have jumped the victim as he walked away from his car. It is believed the man had his young daughter with him at the time of the incident.

A police spokesman said: “Officers attended and found a man in his 40s had suffered leg injuries. He was treated for these at the scene.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Bradford District CID on 101, quoting crime reference 13160712452.”

Alternatively, information on either carjacking incident can be passed, anonymously, to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
