AN “ARROGANT and aggressive” driver who repeatedly rammed a works van during a pursuit through the centre of Bradford in the rush hour has been jailed for 12 months.

Marcus Josephs chased after Richard O’Grady, shunting him off the road and doing £4,000 damage to his vehicle, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Josephs, 29, who has “anger management issues”, became enraged after cutting up Mr O’Grady in his red Mazda on the A650 at 4.50pm on April 11.

Prosecutor Jon Gregg told the court that 29-year-old Josephs pulled in front of Mr O’Grady’s white Caddy van and made a gun gesture, shouting: “I’m going to ****ing shoot you.”

Josephs repeatedly struck the van from behind on Canal Road before going the wrong way round a roundabout on Valley Road, narrowly missing another vehicle.

He pursued the van on to Hamm Strasse where he undertook Mr O’Grady and slammed into the passenger side of the van.

Josephs then forced the van off the road, almost pushing it into a lamppost.

Mr O’Grady drove on to Westgate and squeezed through a gap in the traffic to escape.

“He was physically shaking and managed to drive to safety,” Mr Gregg said.

Mr O’Grady’s van had £4,000 worth of damage.

He handed over dash cam footage from the start of the incident to the police, enabling them to take down Josephs’ registration number and arrest him.

Josephs, a father-of-four, of Haythorne Way, Swinton, Mexborough, South Yorkshire, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

He at first denied the offence, accusing Mr O’Grady of editing the dash cam footage to incriminate him.

Josephs’ barrister, Shufqat Khan, said: “It was an aggressive piece of driving and the victim was naturally scared for his life.”

Josephs had issues with anger management, with previous convictions for violence.

He was a devoted family man, in full time work as a joiner, and bitterly regretted his actions.

“He has let himself and everyone else down by the underlying anger management issue,” Mr Khan said.

Judge Jonathan Rose labelled Josephs’ driving “selfish, arrogant and aggressive.”

He was banned from driving for two years.

He must also take an extended retest to regain his licence.
