POLICE found a telescopic ladder, a large saw and a stash of drugs after pulling over a suspicious car in Baildon.

The black Renault Clio was parked in traffic on Green Lane near to the junction with Otley Road. The driver was waiting in a yellow box junction, blocking traffic from turning right.

An officer from West Yorkshire Police's nuisance bike team was several vehicles back in the same queue and when he approached the car the female driver "looked uneasy" and tried to move forward.

A check on the police radio showed the car was not insured and so the officer pulled the car over.

He confirmed the driver did not have a driving licence or insurance.

The driver and a male passenger were spoken to while officers searched the car during the incident on Sunday.

They found "suspicious items" including telescopic ladders and a large saw as well as the drugs.

The female driver was arrested for a number of offences and taken to the police station for questioning.

When inspected later the vehicle was also found to be false number plates.

A police spokesman said today: “All this from parking across a yellow box junction. We’re hoping that the intervention and investigation at the scene from the officers had prevented further offences that evening across the district."
