AS Bradford prepares to mark the 11th anniversary of the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky at a memorial service today, West Yorkshire Police have renewed an appeal to help bring the final murder suspect to justice.

PC Beshenivsky was gunned down as she and PC Teresa Milburn attended the scene of a robbery at a travel agents in Morley Street, Bradford, on November 18, 2005.

PC Milburn was also shot and seriously wounded in the attack.

Three men – Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, Mustaf Jama and his younger brother Yusuf Jama – were all given minimum 35-year jail sentences for her murder.

But detectives are still hunting another member of the gang, ‘Uncle’ Piran Ditta Khan who fled to Pakistan after the murder and is thought to still be there.

A £20,000 reward has been put forward by crime charity Crimestoppers for information leading to Khan’s capture.

Detective Superintendent Simon Atkinson, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “This investigation remains ongoing and will continue until everyone involved in PC Beshenivsky’s murder has been brought to justice.

“Our efforts are continuing to trace Piran Dhitta Khan, who will now be 68.

“He is thought to be living in Pakistan and we are again appealing directly to the people of Pakistan, as well as those in West Yorkshire and across the country to come forward and provide information on his whereabouts.”

Meanwhile, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Alun Griffiths, will attend the memorial service in Bradford from 3.20pm, the time of the call to the travel agents where PC Beshenivsky, of Hainworth, Keighley, was shot dead.

A minute’s silence will be observed and flowers will be laid at her memorial.

Cllr Griffiths said: “Sharon made the ultimate sacrifice that day to protect the people of Bradford. And that dedication to duty is the same dedication we see from officers and Police Community Support Officers every day throughout our district.”

Chief Superintendent Scott Bisset, Bradford District Commander, added: “Sharon continues to be remembered with great fondness and the annual memorial service allows her family, friends and colleagues to come together and pay tribute to her.”

The public is welcome to attend.
