A STREET drug dealer with a previous conviction for a similar offence has been jailed for three years.

Police caught Imran Khan, 36, selling to a known drug user, from his Volkswagen Jetta, in Atherstone Road, Allerton, Bradford.

He tried to get away from the officers by reversing his car at speed for 70 metres, but came to a halt and was blocked in.

Khan was found to be in possession of four wraps of heroin and four of crack cocaine, as well as £600.

The defendant, of Girlington Road, Girlington, pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply, and dangerous driving.

Prosecutor John Bull told Bradford Crown Court that Khan had been sentenced to almost four years imprisonment in 2004 for similar offences.

Khan's solicitor advocate, Ray Singh, said his client had been working as a self-employed builder, had been a productive member of the local community with youth football teams and supporting children to keep out of crime. He had been clean of drugs for a long period but had started taking them again after being attacked.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, said Khan had played a significant role. He disqualified him from driving for 30 months.
