GOOD NEIGHBOUR: Celebrating those residents who step forward when they find their neighbours are facing difficulties.

A TIRELESS supporter of local organisations, Jane Wootton is a stalwart member of the community.

She is parent/governor at Canterbury Children’s Centre in Bradford, involved with the parents’ forum at Horton Park Primary School and a volunteer helping support sessions at The Arc Youth Centre.

She cooks Sunday lunches for elderly residents and has set up a Facebook group for the Canterbury estate.

Jane is also involved in the Scubas, One in a Million, helps with school clubs and Bradford Youth Service.

She is one of the lead members in helping set up the newly-formed Canterbury Ladies Group and helped set up All Canterbury Together with Bradford Trident.

When families are in crisis she will help in any way she can.

SUPPORTING Bingley residents in the aftermath of the devastating floods on Boxing Day last year, has led to Michelle Chapman being nominated.

She was instrumental in setting up the Bingley Flood Support Group and co-ordinating emergency help for those who were affected.

She received three nominations, with Damian Fisher, Bradford Council’s Shipley area co-ordinator saying: “Michelle and the team provided both practical and emotional support and were on call throughout that time.

“The energy and enthusiasm of the team was truly fantastic.”

Edwina Simpson, who also nominated Mrs Chapman, added: “Michelle stands out as someone who notices when people are in difficulty.”

FOR his work helping Syrian families who have settled in Bradford, Zafar Kayani has been nominated.

Mr Kayani gives up his time to provide support to families, who have been forced out of their homeland due to the dangerous civil war.

He has been nominated by Maha Al-Jaffan, who came to Bradford with his family from Syria. Miss Al-Jaffan said Mr Kuyani goes out of his way to help Syrian families such as his own.

He said: “He is always encouraging me to do activities and try new things, and he arranges for us to do new things through his friends and contacts. He goes out of his way to help people; if someone needs a lift he will give it to them, and then ask what they need help with and if he can help.”
