BRADFORDIANS have until Monday to nominate someone deserving for a Bradford Medal in the Telegraph & Argus Community Stars Awards for 2016.

The search is on to find people that go the extra mile in a number of categories. This year Better Start Bradford has teamed up with organisers to recognise volunteers in the Little Horton, Bowling and Barkerend and Bradford Moor areas, who work with families with under-4s and pregnant parents.

Better Start Bradford is appealing to families, community leaders and professionals to nominate people now, to show local early years volunteers how much their work is appreciated and valued.

Michaela Howell, programme director, Better Start Bradford, said: “The Community Stars Awards are so important in recognising the amazing work of volunteers across Bradford. We’re really excited to this year be supporting the first ever award specifically for volunteers who work with families with young children and expectant parents.

“Better Start Bradford is a programme dedicated to engaging and supporting families with under-4s, working to ensure our children have the best possible start in life, so we know how important volunteers are to so many families in our area.

“We’re encouraging families and family workers across our part of Bradford to nominate their Community Star now, as a thank you for their hard work and enthusiasm.”

So far Canterbury Imagine, a charity which works in the area to provide babies and toddlers with free books, as well as two volunteers who work with the project’s Perinatal Support Service have been nominated in the Better Start Bradford category.

Nominations are also being sought in the following categories: Volunteer, Good Neighbour, Community Group, Fundraiser, Community Champion and Young Active Citizen.

The Community Stars Awards are organised by the Telegraph & Argus and Bradford Council in a bid to ensure unsung heroes across the district are properly rewarded.

Readers are being asked to nominate people in their local communities who they believe go the extra mile to help others.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, September 26, and these will be be whittled down by a panel of judges, before the public vote for their favourites from a shortlist which will be published in a special supplement in the T&A.

Category winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Midland Hotel, on December 7, where they will be presented with the prestigious Bradford Medal.
