Hundreds of vintage enthusiasts are set to help support the Telegraph & Argus Children’s Secret Santa Appeal tomorrow.

Caroline Brown, organiser of Saltaire’s Vintage Home & Fashion Fair, is hoping collectors will show seasonal goodwill by making a donation to the appeal while they browse round the event at Victoria Hall from 9.30am to 4pm.

Money raised will go to the appeal being run by the T&A in association with Bradford-based Human Relief Foundation to buy Christmas presents for some of the district’s 37,000 children living in poverty.

The appeal is supporting Barnardo’s Young Carers Service and The Children’s Society’s Gateway Children’s Centre in Ravenscliffe.

Mrs Brown, of Rose & Brown, said: “What struck me most about the appeal was the plight of young carers and the massive responsibilities they have.

“While everyone else is enjoying Christmas, for them it’s probably even harder work, which makes it even more important that they are rewarded for their selflessness.

“It’s almost Dickensian that there are so many children in our district living in poverty and in dire straits. It’s a stark reminder of how fortunate many of us are.

“We put on these vintage events for people to come and enjoy themselves. We hope on Saturday they will dig deep to give enjoyment to some children who otherwise might not have fun this Christmas.”

The first 25 visitors to the fair will also get a free ticket to the next Vintage Fair on Saturday, January 26.

About 50 stalls will be there tomorrow offering everything from frocks for the festive season, to jewellery and trinkets, original Art Deco furniture, 1950s ceramics, upcycled and re-made furniture and gifts, vintage toys and vinyl.

Shipley’s Interlude Tea Room will also be selling refreshments.

Entry costs £3 on the door or £2 for concessions, under-16s get in free. Tickets can also be bought from Rose & Brown, e-mail roseandbrown vintage@yahoo.co.uk, or pop into the Rose & Brown shops in Saltaire.
