A FUN initiative to boost the natural beauty surrounding Cote Farm, Thackley, begins with a work party to open up an ancient bridleway this weekend.

Crooked Lane is a historic pathway that provides habitat for local wildlife and is a well-known nature walk between Thackley and Idle.

The tidy-up effort takes place on Saturday morning and is organised by Isobel Burgess of the Cote Farm Action Group, which successfully campaigned against a housing development on green space beside Leeds Road.

"Unfortunately, the lane has become a little overgrown in recent years and we are looking for volunteers and members of the local community to come together to help with some general maintenance work including litter picking, pruning of overgrown vegetation and pathway improvements," Miss Burgess said.

" This will be our first session and a bit of a community get together and if this proves to be successful we will organise future sessions."

The session on Saturday, October 11 starts at 10am at the bottom of Crooked Lane, on Leeds Road, Thackley.

Everyone is welcome and people are advised to wear sensible footwear .

All tools and materials will be provided and there will also be cakes and refreshment.
