The Beating Hearts in Bradford Appeal moved a step closer to its target this week with a gift of £10,000.

The money was raised at the Aagrah’s 27th annual dinner at The Midpoint Suite in Thornbury, and representatives of the Bradford restaurant group visited the cardiology department at Bradford Royal Infirmary to hand over the much-appreciated donation.

The Beating Hearts in Bradford appeal – supported by the Telegraph & Argus – aims to raise £105,000 to buy a 3D echocardiograph machine for BRI to enable specialised heart scans. It is the second year running the cardiac ward and the BHF have benefited from the dinner as Aagrah managing director Mohammed Aslam and group chairman Mohammed Sabir have both been treated on ward 22 at BRI following heart attacks.

Aagrah vice-chairman Zaffar Iqbal said: “Aagrah is a keen supporter of charities, particularly those close to home. Aagrah is proud to make this donation.”

The cheque was received by Sue Green of the British Heart Foundation in West Yorkshire. She said: “The Aagrah has donated £35,000 towards the appeal which is a tremendous amount and we all are extremely grateful for their support.

“We still need to raise £45,000, therefore if anyone would like to support the appeal by holding an event or making a donation please contact me.”

What a waste of time money and effort. If this equipment is needed then it should be purchased by the NHS and not by well meant but misguided donations. It is a scandal that the NHS which is awash with our cash, much if it squandered, should go cap in hand to the public. BRI has a crappy digital x-ray system that doesn't work properly and never will. They claim to be able to send your x-rays to your doctor - big deal I can send a video across the internet anywhere. Send the donations to where they are needed and it's not the NHS.
