Baildon couple hold fundraiser at Shipley pub

A couple who were injured in the Valley Parade fire disaster are hosting a fundraising evening for the Burns Unit Appeal at The Hockney pub in Shipley on Thursday.

The event will include a disco, karaoke, quiz, buffet and a raffle with prizes donated by Asda.

Gillian and Michael Donoghue, of Baildon, who have organised the evening, suffered burns to their hands during the fire, which engulfed the stadium’s Main Stand in May, 1985.

The Telegraph & Argus-backed appeal aims to raise £100,000 for the research unit at Bradford University to mark the 25th anniversary of the disaster, which cost 56 lives.

The event will run from 7.30pm. Entry is free.
