Two life-long Bradford City fans were at Valley Parade on Saturday to present an £800 cheque to the Burns Unit Appeal.

Terry Dickinson and Colin Boyes, both of Shelf, hosted a race night and auction at the village’s Shoulder of Mutton.

Stuart McCall’s tracksuit top from last season was the most popular item under the hammer, raising £65 for the Telegraph & Argus-backed appeal, which aims to save the pioneering research unit at Bradford University from possible closure.

The unit was set up in the aftermath of the Valley Parade fire disaster in 1985, which cost 56 lives and injured more than 190.

Mr Dickinson, a plumber who helps with maintenance work at the club, said: “It was a great night, everything went really well.”

He is also auctioning a signed picture of the 1966 World Cup winning team to raise further funds for the campaign.

The picture can be viewed in the Burns Unit Appeal section of the Telegraph & Argus website, telegraphandargus.co.uk.

To make a bid for the picture e-mail burnsunitappeal@the bantams.co.uk. The auction will close on Saturday, October 31.
