A HAIRSTYLIST is set to lose her locks for charities including the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal.

Hannah Wardman, who works at De Luca Boutique Ltd in Thornton Road, Bradford, will be taking part in a sponsored head shave at Thornton Cricket Club this Sunday.

The 25-year-old's locks will be shaved off by her aunt Kath Peacock, 53, who herself has recovered from breast cancer.

The event will also mark the memory of two members of her family who have lost their own battles with cancer.

Hannah's aunt, June Peacock, died in May this year after suffering from pancreatic and liver cancer. She was 61.

Hannah's grandad, Walter Wardman, died of lung cancer in 2006.

She aims to raise at least £5,000 but hopes to add to this tally on the day of the head shave held at the cricket club in Hill Top Road from 1.30pm. The fundraising festivities also feature a raffle, stalls and pace painting for children.

She will also be raising cash for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, as her dad Neil, 54, has suffered from MS for the last nine years.

Funds will also be donated from the total to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Hannah says the event will be emotional for her as she remembers her family members, but she hopes to raise as much as she can for the good causes.

She said: "It's been a really hard few years for the family after we have been affected by cancer so much.

"It's very important that we help to find a cure and give to people who have been touched by cancer and MS.

"Anyone who knows me knows I love my hair and what a massive thing this is for me.

"I'm really nervous about it but it's all for a good cause.

"These are all great causes, as I'm sure you will all agree we all know somebody who has either suffered with cancer or who is suffering, including myself.

"People in the shop have said that I'm brave to get my head shaved. They've said that they wouldn't do it.

"I've said for a few years that I would get my head shaved for charity and now it has come around.

"My dad suffers from Multiple Sclerosis so I wanted to do my bit in helping raise money for a fantastic charity that helps support this terrible, life changing disease.

"We're hoping to raise even more money on the day."

The Crocus Appeal is working to raise £1 million to buy a new high-tech mass spectrometer for experts at the University of Bradford's Institute of Cancer Therapeutics.

The state-of-the-art machine will allow scientists to understand the vital role that certain proteins play in the spread of cancerous cells - leading to the development of cancer medicines.
