A Bradford restaurant hopes to raise £50,000 for the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Appeal by giving diners the chance to donate part of their bill to our cancer-fighting campaign.

Mumtaz in Bradford has generously agreed to give 15 per cent of any bill to our £1 million appeal if it is accompanied with the special voucher on this page, which will also be carried in the T&A every day during the rest of August. Diners should just print out and cut out the voucher and take it along.

The money we raise will be used to buy scientists at Bradford University’s Institute of Cancer Therapeutics (ICT) a new, state-of-the-art mass proteomic spectrometer so they can study the role of proteins in cancer ten times quicker than ever before.

This could hold the key to developing new ways to treat the disease without the horrendous side effects associated with chemotherapy, potentially transforming the lives of patients across the world.

Maryam Mumtaz, a director of Mumtaz and daughter of owner Mumtaz Khan, said the restaurant hoped to raise as much money for the appeal, with a target of £50,000.

“Mumtaz likes to give back, especially to Bradford,” she said.

“He wants to do his part to give back to the community and he though the T&A Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal was a very worthy cause.

“This campaign really touched him and he wanted to do whatever he could to support it.”

The voucher, which can only be used at Mumtaz Bradford, does not give money off a bill, but means people can donate 15 per cent of its total to our appeal if they present the T&A voucher. The restaurant also has a collection bucket for anyone who would like to make any extra donations.

T&A editor Perry Austin-Clarke said: “We’re really thrilled by this extremely generous support by Mumtaz.

“This must be one of the most enjoyable ways there is to give money to charity: readers get to enjoy a lovely meal, paying no more for it than they would normally, and yet 15 per cent of everything they spend goes to this fantastic appeal.

“It’s just too good to miss!”

We are running the T&A Bradford Crocus Appeal with Bradford University, Yorkshire Cancer Research and the Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust, which will donate £50,000 for every £200,000 raised until we reach our target.
