A group of cyclists who completed a gruelling trip from Bradford to Paris and back have now vowed to raise money for the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Appeal.

The 700-mile, seven-day adventure carried out by Adam Tasker and 12 friends has so far raised £6,500 in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Now, group members will help boost the T&A appeal – starting with a psychic evening on Sunday, September 8, at the Midland Hotel in Bradford and an attempt at cycling round Lake Geneva in France and Switzerland, coupled with having a go at some of the Alpine stages of the Tour de France.

Next year, they hope to recreate their epic ride to the French capital and are planning on making it a event everyone can join.

The recent Paris trip saw the cyclists ride from Bradford to Hull to catch a ferry to Rotterdam in Holland.

From there they headed through Belgium, before calling at Roubaix in northern France and tackling the infamous Hell of the North cobbled route between there and Paris.

Taras Stefanyszyn, one of the cyclists, suffered nerve damage to his foot on the ride, but said: “It went really well”

He also revealed he had to borrow a wheel for his bike after suffering three punctures the night before they were due to set off.

He suffered two more punctures on the first leg of the journey to Hull, but thanks to some quick repair work the group made it to the ferry together.

On day two’s 150-mile ride from Rotterdam to Roubaix, Mark Sutherland crashed into a bollard and cracked some ribs.

Their journey back to Bradford ended with being welcomed by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Joanne Dodds.

Mr Stefanyszyn said: “I was glad to be home, but sad that it had finished. It was certainly an experience that I’ll never forget and that I’m glad I did.”

The other cyclists were Liz Hills, Gareth Helliwell, Rob Preston, Chris Wilson, Ian Linley, Ian Hill, Karen Pickles, Andy Watt, Gary Bailey and Paul Holliman.
