Swimmers have been making a splash during Bradford Council’s Big Swim Challenge this week.

Prizes have been given to swimmers who have beaten the clock and recorded the quickest times to swim a mile at pools in Queensbury, Shipley, Bowling and Bingley.

The challenge is part of Bradford Council’s bactive campaign, encouraging people to get fitter while having fun.

Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, executive member for environment and culture, said: “Although we are timing people and giving prizes for the fastest times, our Big Swim Challenge is really designed to encourage people who already swim to test their fitness and go that little bit further than they would normally do.”

There are remaining swim sessions at Bowling Pool tomorrow from 4.30pm and Bingley Pool on Friday from 4pm. They are divided into junior, adult, and over-50s age categories – normal admission charges apply.
