Amir and Freddie back appeal

New world boxing champ Amir Khan New world boxing champ Amir Khan

World champion boxing sensation Amir Khan is coming to Bradford to be the guest of honour at a charity dinner.

Tickets are now on sale for the event at the Cedar Court Hotel on Saturday, September 26, which is to raise money for The Ear Trust’s Listening for Life Appeal.

The Ear Trust charity was founded by Chris Raine, an ENT surgeon at Bradford Royal Infirmary who brought the pioneering technology of cochlear implants – known as bionic ears – to Bradford in 1990, to help profoundly deaf people regain their hearing.

The Ear Trust started the Listening for Life Appeal, supported by the Telegraph & Argus, to enable the service to move from cramped accommodation in BRI and in to a dedicated centre – The Listening for Life Centre – in the grounds of BRI in March.

Mr Raine said: “The Ear Trust, in partnership with BRI, are very proud with what has been achieved. However, we still have £300,000 to raise to complete the installations and purchase specialised equipment.”

As well as appearing at the charity dinner, 22-year-old Amir, the recently-crowned WBA light welterweight world champion, has given a signed boxing glove which will be up for grabs at an auction of sporting memorabilia on the night.

Bids will also be invited for a cricket bat signed by England’s Ashes star Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff.

Tickets for the evening, which starts at 7pm, cost £45 per person or £450 for a table of 12.

To reserve your ticket or table contact Ear Trust fundraiser Breeda Barry on 07815753677 or (01274) 364853.

When I went past a newsagent earlier, the T&A headline board said "TOP ASIAN BOXER....."
Why the need to say hes Asian? Would they specifically point out a boxer of white, black or hispanic ethnicity?

T & A encourages seperation. Why can they not just refer to him as a top boxer. I never see them refer to Junior Wittor as a top black boxer or Stuart McCall as a white manager.
