PLANS have been drawn up to build 68 retirement apartments in Menston on the site of a pub.

A planning application is soon to be submitted for the proposed new development at the site of the Hare & Hounds, off Bradford Road.

If given the go-ahead by planners, the £11.5million construction will be undertaken by Cheshire-based company Adlington and would create more than 25 jobs in the local area.

The company has launched a public consultation to find out what local residents think of the plans.

A spokesperson for Adlington said: “Adlington are intending to apply for planning permission for a residential development with care for older people comprising 68 private apartments with communal facilities and landscaped gardens. All apartments will be sold to individual homeowners.

“We always try and keep local communities informed and welcome any views you may have on our initial proposals at this stage so that we might consider their inclusion in our planning application.”

The company has recently won a Gold Award for the Best UK Retirement Development at The WhatHouse? Awards 2017 – for a development at Otley.

The Menston site has been chosen for its prominent position, a short walk from key amenities, and Adlington says it will provide apartments with the option of 24-hour care and support.

The company spokesperson added: “The proposed development of one, two and three bedroom spacious apartments will feature prestigious facilities including a table service restaurant, well-appointed homeowners’ lounge, hairdressing salon, activities and crafts room, spa suite and tranquil landscaped gardens.

“Furthermore, flexible care and 24 hour on-site support will be available, should it be needed, from specialist care providers.”
