A Bradford businessman has helped rescue the annual Yorkshire Day celebrations by hosting a dinner.

When Zulfi Hussain (right) and business partner, Sanjeev Johar heard the traditional celebrations were at risk when the planned venue fell through they offered their Deeva’s Indian Restaurant in Farsley as an alternative.

The award-winning eaterie on Town Street has recently signed up as a corporate member of the Yorkshire Society and had planned to celebrate Yorkshire Day at the restaurant on Friday.

Zulfie said: “It was a great way to lend support and encourage some more traditional members to think of Yorkshire cuisine in another light.”

Keith Madeley (left), chairman of Yorkshire Society, said: “We are not precious about Yorkshire Day always being celebrated with a roast beef and Yorkshire pudding so Zulfi’s offer is great. It proves how diverse our membership is.”
