A reunion for former pupils of Salt Grammar will take place next month to raise money for cancer patient carers in Bradford.

Organiser Janice Mathers (nee Berry), of Central Avenue, has invited pupils who left the fifth form between 1979 and 1981 to the reunion at Baildon Woodbottom Club, Baildon Bridge, in Otley Road.

This is the fifth year the reunion has been held, although last year Mrs Mathers almost cancelled it at the 11th hour following the death of her father, Donald Berry, 75, three days before the event.

The life-long Bradford City fan from Baildon had been suffering from cancer and was cared for by Marie Curie Cancer carers in Bradford.

Mrs Mathers said: "I was very close to him so I wasn't going to continue the reunions any more because of how I felt. But, instead, I am going to turn the whole thing into a charity event."

As well as former pupils, now aged 42, 43 and 44, teachers at the school during that period are also invited to join the party, on Friday, June 13, from 7.30pm onwards.

Entry costs £2, which will be donated to the Marie Curie hospice in Maudsley Street, Little Germany, Bradford.

Mrs Mathers said: "My dad spent his last three weeks in Marie Curie Cancer Care in Bradford, so I intend to raise some money in his memory because I know he'd want me to carry on doing something that gives me pleasure. I hope to see a lot of people there for a fun evening and a trip down memory lane."
