A drug user who supplied heroin and crack cocaine to addicts after they were sent to his flat has been told he faces 30 months in jail if he is not assessed as suitable for a drug rehabilitation programme.

Alan Simpson, 31, was arrested in May last year after police detained a drug user who had bought three wraps of the Class A drugs at his flat in Church Street, Windhill, Shipley.

Prosecutor Ewan McLachlan told Bradford Crown Court today that officers found another wrap of heroin in the flat as well as £275 and a suspected dealer list.

Simpson told police that the drug user they had arrested had been directed to the flat after calling a dealer.

'The defendant said he had been supplying for about a week,'' said Mr McLachlan.

'He also said that the dealer had forced him to deal because he had lost some of the dealer's drugs and the dealer had threatened to smash his windows.

'He said he would serve about 30 customers a day with a total of 40 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine.'' Simpson pleaded guilty to offences of supplying heroin and crack cocaine, possessing heroin with intent to supply and possessing criminal property.

His barrister Martin Robertshaw submitted several reports in support of Simpson and Judge Roger Scott also heard from his partner who needs regular hospital check-ups.

Judge Scott told Simpson he was adjourning his case so that he could be assessed for a drug testing and treatment order.

He warned Simpson that if he did not get a tick at the assessment he would come back to court on May 16 and be locked up for 30 months. Judge Scott granted Simpson bail in the meantime.
