A FORMER care home in Shipley can be converted into flats, despite concerns from local councillors.

Plans to convert the former Ivy House Nursing Home on Hollin Wood Close, Shipley into 14 one and two bed flats had been submitted by Jayco Developments (Yorkshire).

There had been 10 objections tot he plans, including by Shipley Councillors Hawarun Hussain and Kevin Warnes, who raised concerns about the traffic the flats would bring to the road.

The application came before Bradford Council's Regulatory and Appeals Committee this morning, where Bradley Stankler, the agent for the applicants, said: "This is the re-use of a vacant building in a highly sustainable location.

"There are a lot of three and four bedroom family houses in the area, and these one and two bed flats will bring a better range of home types in the area."

He addressed concerns about the traffic the flats might create by adding: "The loss of a working nursing home is more likely to lead to a reduction in vehicle movements overall."

The committee unanimously approved the plans.
