School pupils have decorated dozens of ceramic tiles which now form part of the interior of a new Haworth toy shop.

The children from Stanbury Primary School were invited to show off their artistic talents by one of the owners of Pippy Longstocking, which has opened in Main Street.

The business has been set up by Jill Ross, from Oxenhope and Ruth Wild, from Todmorden.

Haworth resident Dave Eastham, one of three staff working in the shop, said about 200 small tiles were taken to Stanbury Primary before the shop’s launch.

Mr Eastham said the pupils painted the tiles with a variety of designs, including abstract patterns and self portraits.

Their efforts were then collected, glazed and fired in a kiln in the cellar of Haworth’s Cobbles and Clay cafe, which is also owned by Ms Ross.

Mr Eastham, 35, said the tiles have been installed both on and around the toy shop’s counter.

He added: “They look fantastic. Rather than having something monochrome this has given the shop a really different look.”
