A clutch of Bradford girls are in the running to be crowned the first Miss Yorkshire this weekend.

The contest which will be held at the 02 Academy Leeds on Sunday is supporting CLIC Sargent, a cancer charity for young people and children, by donating £5 from the sale of each ticket to the cause.

Finalists from Bradford include Paige Carney, 19, Shannon Lad, 18, Emma Campbell, 26, Monique Gregoire, 23 and Amy Ratcliffe, 18. Monique, from West Bowling, said: “I am really looking forward to it I’ve always wanted to do it. It’s fantastic to be doing something for this charity and to give something back.”

The girls will go up against 20 other contestants from around the county all hoping to claim the coveted title and to win the £1,500 prize money and one year’s contract with Female1 (F1) model agency.

The charity CLIC Sargent provides clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help people cope with cancer and get the most out of life. CLIC Sargent has social care teams at Leeds General Infirmary.

Jo Warmington, fundraising manager for Yorkshire, said: “We’re delighted that Miss Yorkshire has chosen to support CLIC Sargent.

“Money raised will help us make a difference to children and young people with cancer.”

The event aims to celebrate not only beauty but also the talent and diversity of the area.
