Robert Cordingley who was jailed for life today for the murder of his father
A Shipley man who murdered his 91-year-old father by smothering him has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of nine years.
Robert Cordingley, 57, admitted to murdering his father, George, in January by covering his face with a pillow wrapped in a bin liner. His father, a widower who had been a well-known motorbike competitor, was found dead in a bedroom of the house in Bingley Road he had shared with his son for 57 years.
Cordingley, who was his father's sole carer, had previously been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. Newcastle Crown Court heard today.
He was ordered to serve a minimum of nine years before he could be considered for release.
