Cars are clamped in tax blitz

Motorists had their cars clamped after a blitz on untaxed vehicles in Bradford.

Officers from Bowling, Barkerend and Bradford Moor Neighbourhood Policing Team clamped 20 untaxed vehicles and took them to a DVLA compound in Wakefield during a three-day operation on patrol with the DVLA clamping team.

Every vehicle registered in the UK must be taxed if used or kept on a public road. If the vehicle is kept off-road it must either be taxed or have a Statutory Off Road Notification in force.

PCSO Chris Cahill, who took part in the crackdown, said: “I went out with the clamping team in their van. It has a number plate recognition computer on board with four cameras on the outside of the vehicle.

“The computer picks up both moving and parked vehicles.

“For a driver it would be difficult to avoid being picked up by the computer system that is updated daily with untaxed vehicles.”
