A motorcyclist was killed today when he was thrown from his bike in a collision with a car just yards from Shipley fire station in Saltaire.

The 55-year-old man was riding a foreign-registered Triumph motorbike along Victoria Road when it was in a crash with a Suzuki Alto car at the junction with Saltaire Road at about 2.45pm this afternoon.

Shipley firefighters found the man lying on the ground yards from the fire station after they were alerted to the incident by concerned onlookers.

They tried to resuscitate the man using CPR until paramedics arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
