Allerton cat rescue centre is 'in a desperate situation' as costs mount

These three kittens abandoned in a skip are the latest arrivals at Allerton Cat Rescue, but those who run the centre say resources are so stretched they could be the last.

Brenda Satterley says with more than 250 animals in her care and out in foster homes, the upkeep of the shelter is “just a nightmare.”

And she said: “It’s getting to the stage that I hardly dare pick up the phone - but of course I do. It’s never ending. It’s so distressing.”

Mrs Satterley said she owes £3,000 to the vets and the bill for cat food is ever increasing despite well-wishers’ donations.

“There’s no doubt we are in a desperate situation. This year has been the worst year ever. We have no money. To keep up the work we do we need more help. It seems to always be the same wonderful people who help us time and time again which is great and I’d like to thank them all but we need more people and more donations.”

Volunteers are having to bottle feed the three new kittens after a man found them in a skip in Bradford. They were so young that one of them still had not opened its eyes.

Brenda Satterley, who has run Cat Rescue from her home in Allerton for more than 40 years, says it costs £20,000 a year to run, with vet bills amounting to £1,000 a month, food £100 a week and cat litter £80 a month.

Cat food donations can be left in appeal bins at Morrisons at Five Lane Ends, Bradford, and Tesco in Halifax Road. Cheques, payable to Cat Rescue, can be sent to Allerton Cat Rescue, 258 Allerton Road, Allerton, BD15 7QX.

A stable yard near me has adopted 2 kittens as they were about to be drowned. A bloke was standing by a pond, a lady from the yard saw him, was concerned & snatched them out of his hands when he said what he was going to do. He'd already drowned one.
.
Seriously, get your cats done - see the RSPCA, the PDSA, your local cat rescue or talk to a vet, but get it done.
