The UK’s largest inflatable cinema screen is coming to Bradford’s City Park, showing animated films for family audiences.

The first screening will be Coraline, ahead of a guest appearance by the US creators of the film at next month’s Bradford Animation Festival.

The inflatable screen, called the Air Screen, is 50ft by 25ft and will be provided by the Cambridge Film Trust. The screenings are by City Park Events and the National Media Museum.

Coraline follows the adventures of a young girl who finds the sinister secrets of another world.

The screening is free and will be followed by other free screenings of films highlighted during the city’s animation festival.

David Wilson, director of Bradford City of Film said: “This is a great opportunity for the people of Bradford to celebrate film on a large scale in City Park. This is a film that all the family can enjoy.”

Mark Shapiro, from LAIKA, the creators of Coraline, will be at the animation festival (BAF) giving a behind-the-scenes look at the US studio's latest feature animation, ParaNorman, which was one of this summer’s blockbusters.

He said: “We are thrilled to bring Coraline to Bradford.”

Other BAF guests include Will Becher, creative chief from Aardman Animations, the Bristol-based studio behind the Oscar-winning Wallace and Gromit series and family movie The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists. The BAF Kids strand offers families chance to catch the latest animated films from around the globe, alongside an inspiring selection of screenings from young animators. A series of workshops included an opportunity to following in the footsteps of Aardman by creating clay characters and a mini animated adventure.

This year’s BAF Game offers young gaming fans chance to experiment with computer programming and papercraft videogame modelling in a warm-up weekend from November 10 - 11.

l Bradford Animation Festival runs at the National Media Museum from November 13 to 17. Tickets are available on 0844 856 3797 or baf.org.uk.

Coraline will be screened on Saturday, October 27, from 6.30pm ahead of other screenings of animated shorts.
