Guns, violence and murder came to the streets of a town centre – but there was no need to worry, it was just an exercise for school students!

Dozens of children spent yesterday at a make-believe murder scene in Keighley’s old police station.

They were able to interview suspects in the cells and examine evidence in a forensics lab.

The students from local schools were taking part in the launch of a new education programme based in the building.

They had hands-on experience of crime-fighting with the help of actors and real-life forensic experts.

Keighley Town Council has developed the programme as a flagship attraction for the Keighley Civic Centre.

Earlier this year Princess Anne opened the centre in the former 19th century police station and magistrates court.

A town council spokesman said: “It provided an inspiring way of helping students improve their personal learning and thinking skills, communication, teambuilding and presentation skills.”
