Funeral of former Bradford teacher Margery Hall to be held
7:00am Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in News
Generations of Bradford schoolchildren will remember centenarian Margery Hall, whose funeral takes place tomorrow.
A well-known figure in Bradford education, she trained as an infant teacher in Essex and taught in the county before moving to Bradford’s Bowling Back Lane Primary School.
She worked there throughout the Second World War when she recalled that, at one stage, the children had to be split up and taught in improvised classrooms as close as possible to their homes due to the threat of bombing.
Her first headship came at Feversham Street Infants, a school which had close connections with pioneering educationalist Margaret McMillan.
Margery was an enthusiastic practitioner of McMillan’s caring, nurturing approach.
Margery became president of the Bradford Association of Professional Women and was a lifelong member of Leeds Road Baptist Church.
Her funeral will be held at nab Wood Crematorium at 2pm
