Bulls' fans clarity call over penality cash
7:00am Saturday 29th September 2012 in News
By Hannah Postles, T&A Reporter
Bradford Bulls’ fans have called for clarity after the Rugby Football League revealed it has made no decision about what it will do with the slice of £1.2 million cash the club’s new owners sacrificed in return for Super League status.
The governing body last night confirmed it had made no decision about what will happen to the “sizeable” chunk of Bulls’ central funding which new owners Bradford restaurant boss Omar Khan and former Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe agreed to forgo as part of the deal which saw the side offered a probationary 12-month licence to stay in the competition.
An RFL spokesman said the undisclosed sum would remain in Super League (Europe)’s bank account until a decision was made and it could be discussed during a meeting of the top-flight teams in November.
But Michael Farren, of supporters’ trust Bullbuilder, said fans wanted to be clear about why the club had incurred a “penalty”.
“We’re obviously pleased that the club has been saved and appreciate the problems from the previous regime mean they should incur some sort of penalty, but we would like some clarity about what the penalty is.
“I don’t think it’s the fans’ place to dictate where that money should go, but I do think we should know what the penalty is and why that amount.”
Bulls agreed to surrender the “significant” sum of money after its owners were told rival Super League sides were not happy for them to continue playing in the competition unless they gave up part of their share of the annual £1.2 million Sky distribution cash paid to each club.
The outfit’s former owners, Bradford Bulls Holdings, entered administration on June 26 after running up debts of about £1.5 million.
It is believed it would be unlikely the RFL could legally distribute the money to creditors who lost cash when the previous company collapsed.
Mr Khan, who owns restaurants in Bradford and Skipton , said the side was being “punished for someone else’s sins” and hoped rival clubs would agree to give some of the money to Bulls.
“I hope some of it comes back to us, but if it doesn’t I’d like to see it used to make rugby league bigger and better. I don’t see any reason why it should go to other clubs,” he added.
“But if we don’t get the television money, we will be fine. This is a club that’s going to go places with or without it.”
Mr Sutcliffe agreed it would be “unfair” if rival sides decided to award themselves the cash.
“If other clubs got the money it would create an unfair advantage when we’re already starting from a raw basis compared to other sides,” he said.

If that's the case, then the money should be given to a Third Party that WILL pay the creditors. Otherwise, this is no more than a bribe!!!

Why would rival clubs be interested in the ownership of another club? The club was in trouble and fell into administration, but now someone has bought it. So why do these other clubs feel threatened that a club is going to continue?
A quick look and they are 9th in the league, not exactly a big threat; so why try to given them a further disadvantage?
As said other clubs didnt have this sort of punishment imposed on them, so why Bradford? I think the RFL should inform people as to why and which clubs are the ones who complained.

So next season instead of servicing existing debt like the other clubs in super league they start with a clean slate.
So when teams like Salford, etc can't spend to cap because they have to service existing debt, the Bulls will be spending to cap due to debts been wiped clean.
If no punishment is handed out then this will happen over and over again.
The RFL should really have done this years ago and this might have not happened again and again.

One more time, the Bulls have had 1.3m debt written off and are set to lose a proportion of 1.2m.

You keep carping on about something you know nothing about, hoping it will sound plausible, and you will look good.
But as you are writing about our club, you are on a hiding to nothing, no one cares what you think.
What you forget is the fans are not to blame for the clubs demise, in fact they did all they could to help it survive in it's entirety, previous to the new owners taking over.
Once the writing was on the wall, we supporters had to suffer for 4 months, not knowing whether we would have a club, or what league we would be, in or even if we had a new owner, before Omar Khan and Gerry Sutcliffe took over.
This is in fact a New Ownership.
So legally speaking they do not own any of those debts, nor as a new SL club are they obliged to pay any debts excepting their own and the transfer of undertaking contractual obligations.
So as just justice says, why give us further disadvantage? he makes a few other points that you may be well advised to read, before writing anything else.
May I also point out that it isn't a crime to go into administration, and even if it was, it wasn't our responsibility as supporters.
Your attitude is that we personally should take the moral stance for the benefit of other clubs that may be suffering similar problems.
OK Bulls as new owners of a business that have nothing to show at this moment but expense, plus the prospect of being further denied the contracted revenue due to them as a Super League Club, next season,
may well think that the level playing field suddenly is an uphill struggle, with a slate that's not actually clean at all.
But people like you still want more from us, don't you???

You are just a bitter and twisted City fan. who still feels the victimisation of your twice demise, even though City have a brand new stadium, good support and a wealthy backer, plus creditors who weren't paid, at the time.
You are somewhat hypocritical to suggest we are moaniing about our lot in life...what upsets me is nothing to do with the money it's the injustice.
(well the cash would be nice!)
And yes most of us, I should imagine, feel deeply about the creditors fate.
But you have no right to keep castigating us or the New owners of the club, due to your bitterness over Bradford City, I personally do wish them well and would hope that one day they will be a premiership side once more.
It is what the City of Bradford needs vibrant and succesful sports clubs.
PS They probably won't ask you to be a director though!
