A female police officer was taken to hospital today after she slipped and fell while chasing a suspected car thief in Brighouse .
Officers in a marked police car started to follow a black Volkswagen Jetta travelling “suspiciously” in Elland Road in Brighouse before it crashed into a lamppost near the roundabout at Brighouse and Denholmegate Road at around 3.30am.
The female police officer got out to chase a suspect who fled the car but slipped and fell. She was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with minor injuries.
A passenger from the VW was also taken to the same hospital with suspected back injuries.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said a 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle, but inquiries are still ongoing to trace the man who fled the car.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call police on the non-emergency number 101.
