The deputy leader of Bradford Council was on hand to celebrate the unveiling of a new sports club for people with disabilities.

Councillor Imran Hussain said he was delighted to see the opening of the multi-sports club, which is to be run by Bradford Disability Sports and Leisure at the Grange Interlink community centre.

The club has been funded to the tune of £19,600 from the Council’s Youth Opportunities Fund.

On Thursday, young disabled people attended the club for the first time.

Coun Hussain said: “I am delighted to see the opening of this club for people with disabilities to take part in a wide range of sports. Following the recent Paralympics Games, there is a large increase in interest in taking part. This, I hope, will help to achieve this demand”

Bradford Disability Sports and Leisure chairman Hilary White said: “I think this will highlight the increasing need to recognise the ability of disabled sportspeople rather than their disability.”
