Bigger say for Bradford on regional funding

A deal which will see Bradford have greater control over a share of £1.4 billion of funding for transport and infrastructure improvements earmarked for the city region was officially signed yesterday.

In July the Government announced the transfer of powers and funding to boost jobs and growth to Leeds City Region.

Yesterday officials were in London at a formal ceremony hosted by Minister for Cities Greg Clark to sign the City Deal. Bradford Council leader, Councillor David Green (pictured), said: “The formal signing of this agreement recognises the commitment of each of our 11 authorities to a more prosperous future.

“This will promote opportunities for business, investment, jobs, transport and the environment in the Bradford district and wider region.

“Bradford will remain vocal in its own right and continue to push the Government for support which is outside of the City Deal.”

The deal will give the 11 councils in the region, including Bradford, an unprecedented level of control over spending to help businesses grow and ensure future investment.
