Former Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe tonight warned that Bradford Bulls’ new owner is “no Roman Abramovich” and would need the support of businesses in the city to return the former rugby league club to glory.

The Bradford South MP and honorary chairman of Omar Khan’s OK Bulls Limited said it would take about 30 months to bring the troubled side to financial stability, with the amount of time it takes dependant on help from investors to transform Odsal Stadium into the “Wembley of the North”.

Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus at the club’s ground yesterday, Mr Sutcliffe said: “This is no Roman Abramovich. There’s not an endless pot of money. This is someone who’s prepared to invest what he has, but we hope that the positive gesture Omar has made is reciprocated by people in Bradford.”

Mr Sutcliffe and Mr Khan, who have been in charge for little more than a week since saving the club from the brink of liquidation, said they had been contacted by “lots of people with lots of ideas” for Odsal but were unable to plan for the future until the Bulls’ Super League status is secured.

Talk sense, we have no debt, we have money, otherwise BG wouldn't, have sold the club to OK. They need extra investment to take us forward. I can't understand why the animosity to GS, he is only a front man, has no money involved, honorary chairman. The only reason, I can see for these attacks, is your not Bulls supporters.

But, no doubt some on here will try to say different. I look forward to their amusing anecdotes, to cheer my long days, in hospital up.

i would like to wish omar khan all the very best as new owner of bulls as i think he's going to need it .we all know the rfl are not to blame for the financial troubles of the bulls but they have not helped by keeping quiet when they must have known when they bought the lease from mr hood n co .that the club was in dire straits and the way they have handled the whole sorry affair.the rfl need to look long n hard at the whole set up how they turn a blind eye to diabolical referees n linesmen we have in super league .also the inconsistency over punishment handed out for players put on report ,they seem to have one law for certain clubs n a different law for other clubs this is why catalan dragons are threatening to withdraw from super league .the bulls saga has just been a shambles but until we have a change of leaders or a change of policy i can only see super league dying .bulls are not the only club in a mess if you read between the lines so come on rfl sort out the mess engulfing our great game

No I was taken to hospital in MY car. That was a few weeks ago. I'm an NHS patient having paid N I for more than 40 years. So why go private. We have the best Health Service in the world, so why go private. Most doctors in private hospitals are " moon lighting " NHS specialists.

Mr Khan is certainly no Abramovic. Abramovic is Russian and has a very dishy partner. He also could have bought the Bulls with the loose change he carries around with him. Also with a bit of planning he could afford to buy out every club in Super League many times over and still be a very rich man. When you think about this mans Billions it kind of puts everything into perspective.

Already read it. Earlier, this morning. Just goes to prove that those of us who read more than the t n a. Have been saying for a few months now. What with Salford, Castleford in the same boat. This should mean that SL/RFL, will have to sit down, this close season, discuss where the problems are. Go back to promotion relegation, lower salary cap, will reduce the number of overseas players, allowing young Brits to come through. Would be interesting to hear all SERIOUS thoughts on the subject.

You don't need a lower salary cap, you need to realise that the salary cap is the upper limit and not the target.

If you have a credit card with a £20k limit it doesn't mean you have to go out and spend £20k, you still have to live within your means.

Bringing back promotion relegation might be a good thing, also giving the second tier of RL a better TV deal and building it up a little more might not see it as a certain way of going bankcrupt if you were ever relegated to it. It should make the sport stronger as a whole.

The only problem is certain teams that the TV men want in the league would drop out of the top league.

Promotion and relegation has its benefits but had a boom and bust senario for the team coming up. All the best players had been snapped up by the time the lower division club knew they were up and the fear of relegation meant that the clubs were affraid to blood youngsters, A lower salary cap ? This would only drive quality players to the NRL or Rugby Union for big bucks, I personally think it should be raised with inflation at least and its then up to the failing clubs to get their house in order and attract the relevant sponsors to make it work.

There that's my two penneth.

Thanks for your response Viking rather than the idiots that preceeded you, Due to the fact the divisions play different times of the year the team at the top of the division below are still not 100% promoted unless leading the comp by a country mile.
Bringing the lower divisions into line and running at same time still has its problems as 2 teams could be neck and neck going into last game, Would they dare sign some big names on the strength they may go up?
