Firefighters tackle house blaze in Bradford city centre
Four fire engines and aerial equipment were used to put out a house fire in the centre of Bradford last night.
The crews from Bradford and Odsal fire stations were called to the blaze at a derelict two-storey house in Upper Park Gate, Little Germany, at about 9.10pm.
Andy Marshall, watch manager at Bradford fire station, said the fire was in a downstairs area of the boarded-up Victorian property.
“We could see a fire on approach at ground floor level,” he said.
“Luckily for us, we got to it fairly quickly and managed to contain it to the ground floor.
“The actual property was in a poor state of repair and there was quite a bit of fire loading and timber in there anyway.”
He said firefighters and police, who were called to the scene also found bed frames and discarded syringes in the house and believe the fire could have been started from the outside.
Mr Marshall said firefighters spent about three hours at the scene before it was made safe.
