Wharfedale Naturalists Society chairman Peter Riley and wife Anne get ready for the organisation’s 67th season
Leaders of Wharfedale Naturalists’ Society remain determined to show the organisation’s commitment to supporting threatened wildlife in the valley.
The society embarks on its 67th winter season on Tuesday with a meeting at Christchurch in Ilkley , featuring talks by Doug Simpson on red kites and Julia Kay on wildlife from Himachal Pradesh. The meeting starts 7.30pm.
Founded in 1945, the society has more than 500 members, and as well as holding meetings with nature talks, it plays a significant role in the management of four Wharfedale nature reserves.
The society holds regular indoor meetings through the winter at Christchurch, on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.
Topics lined up this season include bird migration, bees, the Yorkshire Dales National Parks woodlands and the Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust.
Visitors can turn up on the night for a £2 fee, or join the society for £10.
