Cancer specialists win conference funding
9:02pm Monday 3rd September 2012 in News
Two cancer specialists from Airedale Hospital have won funding to make a fact-finding trip to an international conference in Vienna this month.
Carl Booth, lead pharmacist for cancer services and clinical trials was awarded £2,000 when his presentation was voted the best at the British Oncology Pharmacy Association symposium in Glasgow last year.
The presentation focused on work carried out by Mr Booth and Dr Ganesan Jeyasangar with Airedale Hospital doctors who don’t specialise in oncology. It involved a survey to find out what they know about oral chemotherapy treatments and how they deal with cancer patients.
They will now take part in a four-day international event – the European Society of Medical Oncology conference in Vienna on September 29 where they hope to learn more about research and new developments in cancer therapy.
Mr Booth said: “The conference will be a great opportunity for making sure that we have the latest knowledge about cancer treatments which will help us provide the best care for our patients.”
