Campaigners were today protesting in Bradford city centre over Bradford West MP George Galloway ’s comments about rape.

A crowd of people gathered in Centenary Square – some holding placards reading “no means no” – in protest at the Respect MP’s comments in support of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who is facing rape charges in Sweden.

The comments were made on his video podcast, Good Night with George Galloway, in which the MP said he did not believe that the allegations made by two women against Mr Assange constituted rape.

Mr Assange denies the charges.

Responding to the demonstration, Mr Galloway said: 'I have said repeatedly that no always means no and that non-consensual sex is rape. So on that I'm in agreement with all genuinely concerned people and I will happily meet with any of them to reiterate it."
