Omar Khan and Gerry Sutcliffe new owners of Bradford Bulls

Gerry Sutcliffe Gerry Sutcliffe

Bradford businessman Omar Khan and former Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe are the new owners of crisis-torn Bradford Bulls, it has been revealed tonight.

The restaurant owner and Bradford South MP will be officially unveiled as the famous rugby league side’s new owners at its Super League clash with Hull FC at Odsal tomorrow evening – marking the end of a protracted saga to save the club from liquidation.

But Mr Sutcliffe, honorary chairman of Mr Khan’s bid, said the club’s future in the top-flight has not yet been secured and negotiations will continue next week.

He said: “We have saved the club from liquidation and are happy to have saved it.

“We look forward to working with the fans and everyone who cares about sport in Bradford. We look forward to continuing our negotiations regarding Super League status next week.”

Hopefully this mess can be put to bed now and a more positive future can be looked at.

I just hope the position of the MP isn't used to try aquire public funds to be spent on the Bulls. When you have a story about fire fighters being cut it would be a disgrace to see public funds spent on a private sports club.

Probably cut the number of players, remember 17 are out of contract, how many to keep? Definately increase season ticket prices.
But best thing is possibly, I repeat possibly, the fact that no previous board people like Caisley and Hood are to be involved, so no fractious in fighting............

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear
is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness,
that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?
Actually who are we not to be?
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people
won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine as children do.
We were born to make manifest
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And when we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

I am simply lost for words....

This is fantastic news as far as I can see. I left Bradford several years ago but have been following the Bulls saga over the months and would suggest this is the best outcome out of all those that could potentially have materialised.

I foolishly decided to read what had been posted under this article expecting to see sensible and positive comments. Instead, I am subjected to utter drivel by complete idiots. Some of you really are pathetic and an embarrassment.

Just to make it clear for some people - Of course, the new owners will increase season ticket prices and yes they will cut costs which undoubtably will include player wages. This is how businesses make money and survive. Unfortunately, the previous owners hadn't quite grasped this concept which is why the Bulls ended up on the brink of extinction.

As for "beardedclam" - if your name is a euphemism then you have at least got one thing right. You are indeed what your name implies. Well done....

This is good news that the Bulls have been saved. The Superleague status has yet to be negotiated and decided, but those of us who support teams outside of Superleague know that this is a done deal. What that does say to the Championship clubs is that they gave a snowball in hells chance of joining this elite club. The short term future of the club is normal priced season tickets and mid to bottom table results, which could result in a lot of fickle fans turning away resulting in less cash to spend the year after, etc.

As I`ve been saying on here, I`m not a Bulls fan just a sports fan and am pleaed by this news BUT this is surely not a long term prospect and if Guilfoyle`s comments about safeguarding jobs and just carrying on are correct then if I were him I would make sure I kept mydesk at Odsal as I might be back there in a few weeks.
Surely Gerry and Omar can`t be running a loss making budget, if so were is the RFL in allowing it?
Gerry says the hard work starts now, who is doing it?, as MP he seems to have a record of going in the opposite direction when there`s work to be done, equally where is the funding coming from they have got to have a serious backer so consider this.
Gerry talks the Council into buying back the Lease from RFL, the Coucil sell to the bulls for £1 and Bulls mortgage or sell to a third party thus getting a years running cost at the expense of the Council Tax payer, expect an announcement of this OR Gerry saying they can`t make it work the week after the end of the season, oh and he has to go back to work after the summer recess.
Notas good news as it appears if you lookat it logically.

Mike Strutter your club Leeds Rhino`s have acted with great compassion & dignity this season helping out our club with money, paint for the pitch & have given great support to us. Bingley, nothing logical in what you've said. Pure hypothesis on your part. Council by back lease, think not, they have hardly got two ha'pennies to rub together. The OK did had to prove they had money, available, to take the club forward. They must have or the RFL would have thrown the bid out. I actually thing that you are anti Sutcliffe, one of Bingleys' blues. If you read the articles, available on this announcement, other than, in t n a. Its unclear what Mr Sutcliffe's role at the club will now be.
As a fully elected member of parliment he has a responsibility to those who voted him there and his own Labour Party were very critical of those Tory MP's who were performing two jobs.
So what is his position going forward is he going to be hands on? Will he try to use his influence on the Lanbour run Bradford council or will he be takijg a back seat and focusing on the people he represents as an MP.

Good post and the fickle fan problem could be a problem but this season has gelled alot of supporters many were fed up with the way the club was being run not always the squad or results. I feel this will be the start of a new era if the club charge £200 for a season ticket then they must look into ways of making this payable for its low income supporters. May be the club could set up a direct debit scheme pay for your ticket over 12 months keep it rolling £17 per month keep the money coming in.

like a phoenix from the flames ...

im saving up now for my near £200 adult season ticket ...

although we didnt relaise it as fans ..you can get season tickets for under £75 for two years without being part of the problem ..

kids should be free into ground still though..and just a couple of quid transfer ... Not one price to transfer on rainy days into the stand ..

i would also want to see a dual season ticket offering with PA playing at Odsal...

and if the great bowl could get a 24 hr supermarket attracted to site we could yet realise a state of the art stadium with final , semi final and international capacity capability in Yorkshire..

At the moment Huddersfield and Hull have the most modern , Sheffield the biggest but Yorkshire does need something a little more special to attract multiple events ..

Yorkshire is as big as Scotland ..came eleventh in the Olympics gold medal table ..

and the place in most need of infra-structure investment in Yorkshire is Bradford ...

lets just hope we can pull through against Hull tonight ..as i dont fancy we will make it into playoffs if we have to win in Southern France.

ill be there tonight with my boys ...
