Bradford phone shop boss distraught at raid

Irfan Qaiser looks at the damage done by the raiders Irfan Qaiser looks at the damage done by the raiders

A shop-owner who moved his mobile phone business to Bradford city centre following a terrifying armed robbery at the previous premises has been left distraught after losing thousands of pounds in a break-in.

Police were called early yesterday to the burglary at XLine Mobiles in Ivegate.

A glass door and glass cabinets inside the shop were smashed and a number of expensive phones were said to have been taken.

Shop owner Irfan Qaiser opened the store in Ivegate less than six months ago.

Mubashir Ahmed, a friend of Mr Qaiser, said: “Because it is a new shop, we are feeling very bad.

“We see the shutter was broken, all the glass was messed up, the phones had gone, and he was very upset.”

Mr Qaiser was a victim of an armed robbery by a masked gang in July last year at his former premises in Lumb Lane, Bradford.

He told the Telegraph & Argus after the previous incident how he feared for his life as he was punched in the face and the side of his head by two of the gang with steel weapons, while a third man emptied an unlocked glass cabinet of phones valued at about £1,000.

He moved his business to Ivegate, where he had been open for five months before yesterday’s break-in.

Munawar Hussain, who owns the building which houses the shop, said: “He is not feeling safe here, he is feeling very upset.

“He came here from Lumb Lane because he thought he would be safe, but he is not safe anywhere in Bradford.”

West Yorkshire Police said officers were called at 2.20am to reports of the break-in.

The police helicopter carried out a search of of the area.

No arrests had been made yesterday and inquiries were continuing.

Anyone with information about the raid has been urged to call West Yorkshire Police on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

So you think that the police should just do nothing then?
There are so many back alleys and snickets in the town centre I would have thought the helicopter with it's night sun light and infra red cameras was the most efficient way of checking the area.

Yes it would, I fully agree with you, if it was within a short distance at the actual time of the burglary and I just cannot see this being the case. If it had to man and fly from carrgate a complete fiasco unless of course it had had it's routine service and had to have a test flight. Assome just a little fun for X99

Yes but he still won't have them, will he?
He isn't going to celebrate if the phones are rendered useless and he still hasn't any stock.

But also the criminals wont gain from it and if it happens often enough phone shops won't be targeted as there's no gain for the criminals

Are you sure that this isn't rivalry?
That was mentioned when he kept having problems in his previous premises.

Ivegate has been a "no go" area for at least the last 50 years.

Sadly, the whole of Bradford is now a "no go" area.

Clearly you did not visit Ivegate prior to 25 years ago, when it had a number of decent outlets and when Yates' was bursting at the seams, rather than the den if inquity Ivegate has become, which is pretty much reflected across the the City Centre..

You can't just make up how much stock you had. You have to have receipts. And guess what, the more times.you claim the higher the insurance.

So we had the old crown, yates, the sun inn, plus rams revenge, that part of bradford 25 years ago was okay at the start of your pub crawl, coming down from the queens, but after that, it was a case of leave before the trouble started. No place is safe this day , and age, with the recession on, and it will only get worse.

I go out all over Bradford town centre and also other Yorkshire towns every weekend. Although there are far fewer people out in Bradford than in say Leeds, I have to say that in 25 years I've never seen a fight or any serious bother. The west end gets a bit rowdy once you get past 10pm but that's the same sort of carry on you get everywhere.

How do you work that out? Is it idiotic to expect the Police to mount a thorough search for a fugitive? Is it idiotic to expect people such as Correctness to pay for this service via taxation? If so please explain why. Either that or stfu, idiot.

you're the muppet.
the helicopter is not based in bradford so by the time it gets here they have gone.
2.20am police were called, on a friday night?
chucking out time in the clubs etc,
too much going on for the police or helicopter to spot a particular person or persons with no defining description and they would have most likely had a car waiting anyway!
do you believe the police would have turned up in less than 20mins anyway?
get real!!
low priority they call it!!!

You two arguing about the use of the police helicopter, are like two kids in the playground. For crying out loud give it a rest. This gentleman was very unwise in setting up a business again in Bradford, after his last unfortunate incident. I wouldn't set up in Bradford if the council offered me free rates for ten years, especially selling something as valuable and as easily saleable, as mobile phones. I am Bradford, born and bred, but I am afraid that the city is beyond redemption. Most of our once fine architecture has disappeared, and been replaced with rubbish, that will need to be knocked down in around 30 or 40 years, but that is not the main problem. It is the citizens' of Bradford who make it un-liveable in, and this is mainly due to the population explosion, and influx of people into certain areas of the city. It is a $hithole and I am so glad that i got out. R.I.P Bradford!!!
