A driver was taken to hospital when his car was involved in a crash with an ambulance on emergency call.

The accident involving a Subaru car, happened in Whitehall Road, Wyke , Bradford, at about 5.45am yesterday.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YASNHST), said: “At the time of the collision the ambulance was responding to an emergency call using lights and sirens.

“As soon as the incident was reported we immediately sent a Rapid Response Vehicle and two ambulances to the scene and a resource was also dispatched to the original emergency call.”

The driver of the Subaru, suffered a “minor shoulder injury” and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Commuters faced lengthy traffic queues after police closed Whitehall Road, a major route into Bradford, between Scholes and the junction with Huddersfield Road – known locally as Hellfire Crossroads.

Fire crews from Odsal also attended the collision, which happened near the junction of Westfield Lane.

A YASNHST spokesman said: “We will be working with the police to help with their investigation.”
