Chance to see rare historical artefacts
10:00am Tuesday 31st July 2012 in News
A teapot taken from England to the US in the late 1800s is one of dozens of historic artefacts being displayed in Saltaire .
The annual Saltaire Archive exhibition, which documents life in the village over the past 159 years, will run at Victoria Hall until Friday, August 10.
The Minton China teapot was taken to Dayton, Tennessee, where the Salt family had set up a coal and iron company, and is now back in the village in one piece.
Also on display for the first time are pieces of glassware, wooden and china artefacts, made as souvenirs for the 1887 Royal Yorkshire Jubilee Exhibition.
Visitors will also be able to learn about life working at the Salts Mill as well as education and leisure activities in the village.
The exhibition will be open between 10am and 3pm each day, in the Fluke Room of Victoria Hall, Victoria Road.
