Tyke day treats for all across the region

The district’s four visitor information centres will be among the venues across the district celebrating Yorkshire Day tomorrow by serving up regional fare.
Tempting Tyke treats such as chocolate Yorkshire puddings, cakes, local tea, Wensleydale cheese and sandwiches, will be on offer at the centres in Bradford, Haworth , Ilkley and Saltaire .
The Bradford Council-run centres will also hold colouring competitions and treasure hunts around the local area as part of efforts to celebrate ‘God’s Own County’ on August 1.
Yorkshire Day also marks the start of Ilkley’s annual Summer Festival. The month-long event includes a continental market, afternoon teas, open-air concerts.
Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, the Council’s executive member for skills and culture, said: “This day gives us the opportunity to celebrate everything that is great about Yorkshire and all the county's famous sons and daughters. The district’s Visitor Information Centres put in a lot of work every year to make this day special.”
Other events to celebrate Yorkshire Day include: l A Yorkshire Day Dinner at the Great Victoria Hotel in Bradford to raise funds for the Lord Mayor of Bradford’s charity appeal. Judge James Stewart is the guest speaker and the evening will begin on the outside terrace with a reading of the Yorkshire Day Declaration by the Town Crier and entertainment from clog dancers Clogaire.
l Former police officer turned author Mike Pannett, who worked for the Metropolitan Police for a decade before transferring back to his native North Yorkshire, is signing copies of his new book in Bradford. He will be at Waterstones from 2pm to 3pm with his book Up Beat and Down Dale, as well as handing out boxes of Yorkshire Tea.
l Staff at Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford will be handing out Yorkshire fruit loaf as hotel general manager Simon Cotton takes part to a treadmill in the hotel foyer as part of a marathon charity event. Simon Buckden is attempting to raise awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder while raising funds for the Help for Heroes charity by running 100 marathons in 100 weeks and Mr Cotton is running alongside him for the 50th marathon.
